Hoo! Are you all done with your taxes or is it going to be down to the wire until Monday for you? What joy! I'll be drowning my sorrows in the first picnic of 2011 tomorrow. That should help. I'm also going to be on the hunt for unstamped eggs to blow out for Easter egg dying. Don't these look beautiful?
Elsewhere,
I am a sucker for banana cake. It makes me weak in the knees every time. This one with Nutella frosting looks pretty irresistible.
Hee. A little bun moment (via the blue hour).
I never met a pickle I didn't love. Cathy's deviled eggs with pickled Swiss chard stems sound delicious.
Ever wonder what the ladies at the Canal House eat for lunch every day? Wonder no more.
You could have knocked me over with a feather if you'd told me as a child that I'd one day miss eating lima beans. But the truth is, I do. Especially when I see something like Delaware creamed succotash.
I wish I could hang this edible poster in my kitchen and in my office (via Clotilde).
And finally, this new piece by Gabrielle Hamilton about her mother-in-law (it's not in the book!) just about broke my heart.
Have a good weekend, lovelies.

First of all, I have been meaning to tell you that I LOVE Friday Link Love and genuinely look forward to it every week. Re pickled Swiss chard, I just pickled my own vegetables last week for the first time and discovered a whole new world. The story of the mother in law got me teary. I have an Italian mother in law and I had to laugh out loud when I read about the small extra tray of eggplant without mozzarella for Giovanni. That is so typical and happens at every Sunday lunch I can remember!

Luisa - good luck with taxes. Miraculously uncle sam is giving me a refund, but I think it's because I've now plunged into the life of a freelance writer. I imagine doing taxes from abroad is a pain. Do you have a good accountant? I would assume that helps. I want to save Gabrielle Hamilton's piece for when I receive the magazine, which hopefully, will be soon! Happy spring and picnicking!

Luisa, is that your shoe?
Because it seems to be the perfect spring shoe. If you wear that shoe and spring doesn't come, something is very wrong with the world.

Thank you for sharing the Canal House lunch link. I actually have wondered what those ladies were eating for lunch. I am reading Blood, Bones & Butter right now and loving it, so I'm looking forward to reading this new Gabrielle Hamilton piece you've shared. Thanks, again!

I still need to do my taxes. Down to the wire...that's me. And I'm pretty sure I'm getting a refund, so it makes absolutely no sense why I'd put it off.
I look forward to Friday Link Love...you have a talent for uncovering cool, new food-related stuff online!

The little bun moment had me giggling, and the mother in law story seemed unfinished - but sometimes, the good things in life are.

I'm had red repettos on my wish list for too long. They're so happy!
And I love your links. I have a weird, contrary way of steering clear of books while there's a huge buzz about them, but that piece about GH's mother-in-law makes me want to read her book. Thanks.

that piece by Gabrielle Hamilton was just gorgeous. thank you :)

I had the breakfast buns at the St John Hotel this morning, along with some devilled kidneys on toast. Sticky, crispy and a little bit spiced, dotted with chocolate. The buns, that is, not the kidneys.
The St John breakfast tea, I can report, is very strong stuff. Heavy on the tannins. I hope to have an afternoon little bun moment in the very near future.

Couldn't agree more on the Gabrielle Hamilton piece....I remember when she wrote about the grandmother's divine Eggplant Parmigiano in the NY Times Dining section years ago...

Love that pic's fresh colors and angle.
When I read that story about Gabrielle Hamilton's mother-in-law I was close to tears, too. Thanks for all the other discoveries as well.
