What fun to see you in action. And you have sold me on the need for a splatter guard! I note, though, that the recipe says to sear the meat in a cast iron skillet. As I'm sure you know (or maybe not, since you're not a fan) Mark Bittman has made a big case for the use of cast iron pans, and there's a clip in the NYT video archive that shows how you can use the oven for grilling, avoiding the splatter problem entirely. Of course you will want to be sure you have a self-cleaning oven! Maybe the splatter guard is a simpler solution.

That was the cutest thing EVER. Luisa, my dear, I dare say you should be a regular guest cook on PoP - Sarah, what do you think? xo

Anytime, Luisa, just say the word!

I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. And those friendly people at pink of perfection captured you perfectly. What skills they have. This beats any cooking show I have ever seen.
Oh and did I mention that I LOVE IT??

The video was great. I'm still laughing over the face you made when you tasted the sauce for the first time. Very eloquent!

How cute are you, how cute was that video and how cute is that site? It's a cute assault. And you really never yell at your dishes? "Absorb, rice! This is your last warning!" "Sauce, you NASTY. What did I ever do to you?!" Because that's what a video of me cooking would be, and infinitely less charming.

Thanks for sharing!

Oh, that made my day! You are an absolute natural on camera, and now I'll be able to imagine your lovely voice each time I read one of your posts. I hope you'll do it again! Hello, Food Network?

p.s. I need a splatter screen too!

Very entertaining, you are perfect on camera! It's heroic seeing how you save failed recipes. I'd much rather watch this than any Food Network personality any day!

Here, here! This video was fantastic. Luisa, you are a total natural. Wonderful to see you in action. And Sarah, the video itself was very clever -- I loved the graphics and music and editing. All very well done!

And yes, I must get a splatter screen as well. My Aga will thank you.

That was too cute. I need a splatter guard, for goodness sake!
Also.. I've never had success with wild rice either. I just don't get it. There have to be people out there who have sucessfully made it but how?

That was fabulous and You are really great and fun!!!
Now, I need a splatter guard! Who knew.

Luisa,
What a fantastic video. As always, you
were articulate, charming and very
knowledgable about food. But, what I
liked best was the way you (with the help
of Sarah) rescued the meal. What a trimumph and a good reminder to us all
that we shouldn't give up at the first taste
of something going wrong.
Bravo!!

That was awesome, Luisa! You are a natural on camera. I thoroughly enjoyed that. And Sarah did a fantastic job putting it all together. But I still wonder, aside from all the mishaps with the poorly written recipe, did it end up tasting good? Would you make it again?

You are great in this video! High points for me include the heroic rescue soundtrack and the part when you're all, who on earth doesn't include the bacon in the recipe?! Amen, sister. Love it.

Luisa, you're just what Food Network needs! I'll see what I can do :)

65 - the recipe actually doesn't call for a cast-iron skillet, just for one that's large and heavy. Since my stainless steel skillet is bigger than my cast-iron one, and those bison steaks were HUGE, I went with that.

Molly - if she'll have me... ;

Sarah - don't tempt me. That was so much fun!

Gemma - hee. I'm not sure I really got your enthusiasm, though. Was there anything missing? :)

Julie - eloquent or completely horrific ;) Either way, that sauce was bad at first. Then, it got better.

Deb - thank you so much. Um, and though I have never referred to anything in my kitchen as You Nasty, you can be sure will be doing so from now on. So thanks for that, too.

Melissa - well, thank you, my dear! And yes, the splatter screen. I can't recommend it enough (though, of course, you will still find yourself having to wipe down your stove after cooking, just maybe less...)

Lisa - Thank you kindly!

Maya - aren't Sarah and Sebastian amazing? Amazing, I tell you. Re: splatter screen necessity, see above. YES.

Andrea - well, that makes me feel better because I couldn't figure the wild rice out! I've had it cooked with regular rice and it's been fine, but I guess alone it takes a loooooong time to cook. Too long for me.

Tanna - yes! I wonder if splatter screen sales are just sky-rocketing today? :)

Jimmi - perserverance, though I owe it all to Sarah. Had it just been me and Ben, we'd have been eating steak, unadorned.

Brett - thank you, thank you. I absolutely adored the bison and I can't wait to make those steaks again and also try out some ground bison, but the rest of the recipe? No, it was too fussy and stressful. That bacon-rice-pomegranate business was not my favorite. If you'd like the recipe, I'll send it to you, just let me know.

RA - those Pink of Perfectionists, they are absolute masters of the charming video. I owe it all to them!

Lia - oooooh! You're sweet, my friend.

bah! you and voice and kitchen are all adorable! even bison is cute!

I loved it Luisa - so much fun! When it ended I was thinking, so how did it turn out?, but then I read on in Sarah's post and saw that there was a happy ending. Kudos to you, Sarah and Sebastian - really, really well done!

What a great video!! It looks like you had fun whipping it up like a pro.

I especially like when you cover your mouth after something snarky was uttered.

great job Ms. Child Jr. !

(I think that sometimes newspapers do not have time to test a recipe before it goes to print. And many chefs do not have "Home Kitchen" measurements on hand.)

Alas.

You're so cute! That video just made my morning. Was that an All-Clad pan that did such a good job of searing the bison?

I think your voice sounds like Selma Blair's. (Which ain't bad.)

I totally agree with you
