I've been in Los Angeles, reveling in the blue sky and the cool breeze and the hours spent in a velvety pool -
catching up with friends so dear they could be family -
marveling at the layering of glitzy grit and grand architecture -
and finally - finally! - understanding just what is so great about Mexican food.

Now, THAT looks like a purty sweet spread!

That DOES look good. I love Mexican food. Where have you been eating since you've been out here? I hope you are having a great time.

It IS great to hear you're on this coast! Since you were so kind as to make recommendations for my trip to NY, it's only fair that I return the favor. Here are some of my favorites just for fun:
-Nice dinner out: Sona (www.sonarestaurant.com)
-Favorite Mexican restaurants (as opposed to taco stands, etc.): Alegria in Los Feliz and Loteria Grill at the Farmers Market (http://www.loteriagrill.com/main1.html
-Amazing dessert: Hatfields on Beverly (great dinner too)
-Sushi (that doesn't require a bank loan): Sushi Ike in Hollywood, Saitos in Los Feliz or Shibucho in East LA (if you like wine)
Happy eating!
-Sofia

You go on with your bad self!
I love a New Yorker who can get out and go far every once and a while! I liked seeing the size (tiny) of Nancy Silverton's La Brea Bakery-- there are some great Cannele's there.
Don't forget to put those city toes in the Pacific.

That photo of the palm trees is such an icon, it must feel so cool to actually be there.

Garrett - oh it was. I could have cursed my stomach for not being bigger so I could fit more of that deliciousness in there!
Grant - that Mexican restaurant was in the Puebla neighborhood (?), on that little pedestrian side street with leather-tooling stalls and so on. I don't remember the name! Do you know which one I'm talking about?
Ann - thank you! It's a pretty great neck of the woods indeed...
Sofia - amazing, thank you for all the recommendations! Wonderful.
Shuna - I am currently smacking myself in the head for not having made the visit to La Brea... didn't she sell it to some big industrial hooha? Those Cali beaches, man, they are something else.
Ximena - as uncool as I might sound, YES IT WAS TOTALLY COOL TO BE THERE! :) I loved every minute.
